HAPPY NEW YEAR'S AND A MERRY CHRISTMAS

[ Best wishes from Bermuda Isle!

A number of booths have sprung up near the shoreline, enticing you to don yourself in the colorful festive garb of a true Bermuda native! Unwind from your day and come out to see what's offered. ♥ There are all sorts of delicious foods and snacks, and plenty of souvenirs. It's time to ring in the New Year of 2012! Lanterns have been strung up, and the snow seems to have stopped. In fact, no snow is to be seen near the site of the festival itself. Oddly, the booths are all run by strange black goatlike creatures in finely tailored suits...

The catch is, unless you sneak in, you have to come with a friend or a date! So find someone to go in with you! ♥ You may even catch a glimpse of Eureka as she wanders the festival... ]

I know! That's why I wanted to get you something.

...You're a good kid.

[Smiling] I've got my friends to thank for that.

[He spots a few active booths as they walk] I wonder which one you should pick? Maybe they have more games and some nice souvenirs.

[She laughs a bit.] I guess my friends are to thank for the fact that I'm a troublemaker.

[She looks around and shrugs.]

Dunno.. Let's see what we can find.

I guess friends are part of what makes us the people we are.

Okay. The first one was fun, so the others should be too.

It's not just friends... It's everyone. One person, alone, doesn't amount to much of anything. Kaien taught me that.

[She starts looking around for more games.]

I'm sure there's something.

[Looks up] Your brother is really insightful.

Heh... Yeah. Kaien just... It seems sometimes like he knows everything in the world. I'm pretty sure everything worth knowing, I've learned from him.

[smiles] You and your brothers may have had bad times, but it seems like you guys learned a lot of important things. That's why you're you now. [He tugs a flap thoughtfully as they walk] I learned that way from my brother too.

Heh... Yeah. Times got rough for a while, and shit was pretty awful when we were little but...

[She takes a moment to think about how she wants to put this, and once again settles on wisdom Kane imparted on her as a kid.]

Good times don't mean anything without some hard times to compare them to!

That's a good way to put it.

Oh look, what's--[He turns to a booth with what looks to be a skiiball game. He glances at the little ball resting on the booth and reaches for it, but one of the goat butlers appear beside the booth and he shrieks in surprise, moving behind Kukaku.]

[Instinctively, her arm shoots across her body to grab for her sword... which she then realizes she is not carrying this evening. None the less, she stays in a fighting stance, keeping herself between the goat butler and Fletcher.

Everything is still for a few moments and then she gestures at the game.]

We.. uh... wanted ta play that...

[Realizing there was no danger, he was embarrassed to have reacted like that. Why did they have to be so scary to him~]

I-I'm sorry...! I-I got scared. I thought it was--I'm sorry.

[With the threat dissuaded, she relaxes and looks back at Fletcher, surprised that he's still upset. She smiles and slings her arm around his shoulders.]

Hey! C'mon now! Ya didn't even cry or anything! And you haven't gotten lost yet! You're way better than Ganju was at these things!

Besides, those goat things are scary. Ain't nothin' wrong with being scared of things that look scary! That's part of having sense! Only idiots are fearless!*

[She definitely knew how to deal with little kids, especially the easily frightened ones, because that made him look at her and smile.]

I won't cry, I'm having fun and I got to spend the day with you. I just got frightened, thank you for protecting me.

[That would be news to her, as she's always felt she was an exceedingly poor role model. Maybe it's just that he's not a whiny crybaby like Ganju and no one has given her alcohol yet.]

There we go. That's what I like to hear.

'Course I protected you. We're friends. You're practically family.

[That took him by surprise, he'd known they were friends but family? It was rather...nice to hear something like that.]

Oh--um...t-thank you.

[Kukaku is much more needy than she lets on. She's used to having family, or people she perceives as family, around her pretty much all the time. She's got Rukia, but there's a gap there since this Rukia doesn't know her the way her own Rukia did. So she's started clinging to Fletcher to fill that void.]

That's what family does. We look out for each other.

Okay. Then I'll look out for you.

[He doesn't mind that at all, he would do all he could for his friends and those he cared about.]

Good. Then between the two of us, we should be fine.

[Though really she's more worried about him. He seems pretty defenseless. Maybe she should start having him carry explosives. That's a totally responsible thing to do, right?]

I think so too.

[He'd never be able to do something like that, but he wasn't completely useless.]

[It's entirely possible she'll try anyway. She is pretty sure explosions are the solution to all problems.]

So what do you say we give this game a try?

[Expect to see a big mess around the island if that happens~]

Okay. [He picks up the little ball at the booth without interruption again, and looks it over.]

What kind of game could this be? Have you played something like this before, Kukaku?

[She is such a good role model. Giving explosives to little kids.

She looks at the ball, then at the game.]

....I think ya throw it.

[Very nice, Kukaku~]

[Embarrassed] Oh, r-right. [He tosses the ball and it rolls up into one of the holes marked '10'.]
