[Punch Russell in the head? Sure, he disagreed with things his brother did, but he could never bring himself to do something like that. No matter how stubborn the other was.]

Hit...brother? [He looked up at her nervously] I-I can't do something like that.

He sounds kinda thick-headed. A good punch to the head might do him some good.

You could say that. He's stubborn when he wants to be.

Does it make it easier to get people to listen to you?

Well I mean, it works on Kaien and Ganju. And I'd have to punch Kisuke pretty often... but I mean, it's only 'cause I know they could take it. I wouldn't punch Captain or little kids or anything.

But if it's someone like your brother, then it's okay if it's for somethin' really important. If he's that stubborn that he won't listen otherwise, it might be the only way.

[He never thought of that.] Your brothers...did they make bad decisions?

Captain? Do you mean your leader?

...Well, Ganju makes a lot of bad decisions. But they both just do really stupid things sometimes, and that's just sort of how we deal with each other.

Captain's in charge of my division, but not everyone's. He's one of thirteen. But my orders come from him, and I generally don't listen to anyone else.

But, what if they don't listen to you?

Does your group usually do jobs together?

....Then I punch them harder.

[Said as if that answer should have been completely obvious.]

Well, there's a lot of us, but we all tend to work in smaller groups. I worked mostly with my sister-in law and Ru and a couple of others.

...[He certainly felt bad for them.]

How did you all get picked? Do you all have to be willing to fight?

[They have very hard heads, Fletcher. Don't feel bad.]

Well, to even get in, you have to pass years of training in the academy. If you're not willing to fight, there's really no point in even trying. But it's worth it, if you've got reasons or somethin' to protect.

After graduating, placement generally depends on your skills. Then you advance form there depending on how good you are, how good you think you can get, and how much ambition you have.

[She grins and adjusts her badge again.]

I made it all the way to Vice-Captain!

Vice-Captain? That means you could almost be a Captain yourself, right ma'am? [It was obvious she was well-trained and skilled, but he still felt unsure about such a dangerous job. Hesitantly, he managed to force his thoughts out]

I-I know its your job, but even so--please don't do anything reckless. [He was against fighting, and he certainly never wanted people to get hurt. He still felt regret for his past actions, and didn't want others to get hurt unnessesarily, even strangers.]

Well, there's a few qualifications I don't have, and a spot would have to open up, and I really don't want to be moved from under Captain.

He's a good man and he's strong, but he's sick a lot. And he's too stubborn to lay down and rest to keep it from getting too bad. So I've gotta make sure he takes care of himself.

[She frowns a bit as he brings up 'doing something reckless'. She then lets out a weak chuckle and musses his hair again.]

Don't worry, kid. I've learned from my mistakes.

[Surprised at that] Your Captain is sick? I know a little about plants and herbs, maybe I could try making something to help...

He's been sick a long time. I don't think it's something that can be cured, or Captain Unohana would have done it by now.

But if you think you can make something that'd help, and if I'm alive to give it to him when I get back, I'd really owe you one, kid.

Oh...

[Hearing that he might be able to help, he looks up and nods.]

Okay. I'll do what I can.

Thanks.. I really owe you one. We've been trying the same old stuff with him for so long that somethin' new might be just what he needs.

[Even though Russell wasn't around, he couldn't just pass a chance to do something right to make up for his guilt.] I think its a good idea. My brother and I worked a lot with plants before. I'm not as good as him, but I should be able to do something.

Um...how long has he been sick?

[Scratches the back of her head and frowns a bit.]

Oh geez.. Uh... Long before I was around.... Probably more than a millennium...

[As she completely forgets she was avoiding the subject of being a ghost.]

[He knows far too well about people being sick. It still bothered him.]

Half my job these days seems to just be keeping him in bed. It would be easier if he wasn't as stubborn as I am.

He probably doesn't want you all to worry about him so much.

But see, the problem is, that it just makes us all worry more than if he'd just spend a day or two in bed! We can't trust him to take it easy when he really needs to!

Captain's real important to all of us. We don't want anything to happen to him...

I see...He must be a really good captain.

[He could see how important he was to her] Don't worry, your Captain is strong just like you, right? Then I'm sure he'll be just fine.

He's kind of like a father to all of us. The 13th is like one big family. Even with how much I didn't really want to be what I am when I started, I felt at home pretty much right away once I joined.

Heh... Yeah. I just wish he'd listen to reason more often.
